Rechercher

Cette section affiche vos critères de recherche courants et vous permet de soumettre des mots-clés à chercher dans la bibliographie.

  • Chaque nouvelle soumission ajoute les mots-clés saisis à la liste des critères de recherche.
  • Pour lancer une nouvelle recherche plutôt qu’ajouter des mots-clés à la recherche courante, utilisez le bouton Réinitialiser la recherche, puis entrez vos mots-clés.
  • Pour remplacer un mot-clé déjà soumis, veuillez d’abord le retirer en décochant sa case à cocher, puis soumettre un nouveau mot-clé.
  • Vous pouvez contrôler la portée de votre recherche en choisissant où chercher. Les options sont :
    • Partout : repère vos mots-clés dans tous les champs des références bibliographiques ainsi que dans le contenu textuel des documents disponibles.
    • Dans les auteurs ou contributeurs : repère vos mots-clés dans les noms d’auteurs ou de contributeurs.
    • Dans les titres : repère vos mots-clés dans les titres.

  • Vous pouvez utiliser les opérateurs booléens avec vos mots-clés :
    • ET : repère les références qui contiennent tous les termes fournis. Ceci est la relation par défaut entre les termes séparés d’un espace. Par exemple, a b est équivalent à a ET b.
    • OU : repère les références qui contiennent n’importe lequel des termes fournis. Par exemple, a OU b.
    • SAUF : exclut les références qui contiennent le terme fourni. Par exemple, SAUF a.
    • Les opérateurs booléens doivent être saisis en MAJUSCULES.
  • Vous pouvez faire des groupements logiques (avec les parenthèses) pour éviter les ambiguïtés lors de la combinaison de plusieurs opérateurs booléens. Par exemple, (a OU b) ET c.
  • Vous pouvez demander une séquence exacte de mots (avec les guillemets droits), par exemple "a b c". Par défaut la différence entre les positions des mots est de 1, ce qui signifie qu’une référence sera repérée si elle contient les mots et qu’ils sont consécutifs. Une distance maximale différente peut être fournie (avec le tilde), par exemple "a b"~2 permet jusqu’à un terme entre a et b, ce qui signifie que la séquence a c b pourrait être repérée aussi bien que a b.
  • Vous pouvez préciser que certains termes sont plus importants que d’autres (avec l’accent circonflexe). Par exemple, a^2 b c^0.5 indique que a est deux fois plus important que b dans le calcul de pertinence des résultats, tandis que c est de moitié moins important. Ce type de facteur peut être appliqué à un groupement logique, par exemple (a b)^3 c.
  • La recherche par mots-clés est insensible à la casse et les accents et la ponctuation sont ignorés.
  • Les terminaisons des mots sont amputées pour la plupart des champs, tels le titre, le résumé et les notes. L’amputation des terminaisons vous évite d’avoir à prévoir toutes les formes possibles d’un mot dans vos recherches. Ainsi, les termes municipal, municipale et municipaux, par exemple, donneront tous le même résultat. L’amputation des terminaisons n’est pas appliquée au texte des champs de noms, tels auteurs/contributeurs, éditeur, publication.

Cette section vous permet d’explorer les catégories associées aux références.

  • Les catégories peuvent servir à affiner votre recherche. Cochez une catégorie pour l’ajouter à vos critères de recherche. Les résultats seront alors restreints aux références qui sont associées à cette catégorie.
  • Dé-cochez une catégorie pour la retirer de vos critères de recherche et élargir votre recherche.
  • Les nombres affichés à côté des catégories indiquent combien de références sont associées à chaque catégorie considérant les résultats de recherche courants. Ces nombres varieront en fonction de vos critères de recherche, de manière à toujours décrire le jeu de résultats courant. De même, des catégories et des facettes entières pourront disparaître lorsque les résultats de recherche ne contiennent aucune référence leur étant associées.

    Some authors in disability studies have identified limits of both the medical and social models of disability. They have developed an alternative model, which I call the ‘composite model of disability’, to theorise societies’ ableist norms and structures along with the subjective/phenomenological experience of disability. This model maintains that ableist oppression is not the only source of suffering for disabled people: impairment can be as well. From a feminist, queer, trans activist, anti-ableist perspective and using an intersectional, autoethnographic methodology, I apply this composite model of disability to trans identities to consider the potentially ‘debilitating’ aspects of transness. I argue that transness, like disability, has too often been perceived from two perspectives, medical or social, without the benefit of a third option. From a medical perspective, transness is reduced to an individual pathology curable with hormonal/surgical treatments, a conceptualisation that erases structural oppression. From a social point of view, transness is conceptualised as a neutral condition and variation in sex/gender identity. In this model, structural oppression (transphobia/cisgenderism) is seen as the only cause of ‘trans suffering’. I argue that, just as the medical and social models of disability provide limited opportunities for reflection on the complex experience of disability, medical and social understandings of transness, respectively, are insufficient to describe the complexity of trans experience. I explore the possibilities presented by the application of a composite model of disability in trans studies. By both problematising cisgenderist oppression and acknowledging trans people's subjective experiences of suffering through some of the debilitating aspects of transness, this composite model avoids the pitfalls of the medical and social models. The application of tools from disability studies to trans issues uncovers cisnormativity in disability movements and denounces ableism in trans movements. This will, I hope, solidify alliances between these communities and fields of study.

Challenging the ways in which ideas about the future and time have been deployed in the service of compulsory able-bodiedness and able-mindedness, Kafer rejects the idea of disability as a pre-determined limit. She juxtaposes theories, movements, and identities such as environmental justice, reproductive justice, cyborg theory, transgender politics, and disability that are typically discussed in isolation and envisions new possibilities for crip futures and feminist/queer/crip alliances.     Après en avoir retracé rapidement la genèse, cet article rapporte les principales critiques adressées au concept d’homophobie, notamment son réductionnisme qui tend vers des explications de nature psychologique ainsi que l’éviction de la hiérarchie des sexes/genres. Nous discutons ensuite deux pistes théoriques permettant de contourner les limites précédemment identifiées. La première examine le potentiel de l’approche intersectionnelle. La seconde voie invite à une redéfinition du concept d’homophobie, lui reconnaissant une portée exclusivement descriptive, et non plus en tant que concept explicatif, justifiant ainsi sa subordination au concept d’hétérosexisme qui offre une perspective systémique.     From popular culture to academia, there is national panic about the dismal life trajectories of Black males. This "Black male crisis" has contributed to emergent all-Black, all-male schools. Racial identity is commonly used to explain underperformance among Blacks, yet within-group gender disparity signifies the importance of gender relative to race. Minimal research exists on Black males' gender identities, and less on the intersections of gender and race. This longitudinal dissertation used quantitative and qualitative data to examine the development and intersections of racial and gender identity among Black adolescent males transitioning from co-educational grammar schools and entering the ninth grade at an all-Black, all-male high school. Findings are presented in two empirical papers. Paper 1 examined survey data collected from Black males (N = 183) to explain how boys' racial and gender identities were interrelated, changed over time, and influenced their psychological and academic adjustment. Results from the growth curve analysis revealed that boys' racial and gender identities were interrelated with each other and that higher levels of identity attachment were associated with better psychological and academic adjustment. Moreover, the strength of the relationship between gender identity and psychological adjustment increased over time, indicating that gender identity became increasingly important for boys' wellbeing. Paper 2 analyzed interview data with a subsample of Black males (n = 21) to examine how they resisted and accommodated racial and gender stereotypes. Results from the qualitative analysis revealed that boys were aware of the ways that racial and gender stereotypes overlap, but they responded to these stereotypes in different ways. Although some boys accommodated to both racial and gender stereotypes and others resisted these stereotypes, the majority of the boys responded by accommodating to gender stereotypes and resisting racial stereotypes. That is, they tended to perpetuate cultural stereotypes that require males to be the leader, emotionally stoic, and not to be feminine (i.e., gay) while challenging beliefs about the intellectual inferiority and incompetence of Black people. Findings are interpreted within the macro-context of cultural stereotypes and the micro-context of an all-Black male school. Implications for the study of identity, Black males, and single-sex education are discussed.

    Consideration of sexual pleasure in the lives of people with disabilities plays little part in lay consciousness, and practically none in social policy. This article investigates such repression by engaging with a cultural imaginary that fears nonnormative sexuality as being a potential point of societal breakdown. Recent work in disability studies gives a very different understanding of the sexuate body that opens up the parameters of sexuality for everyone. This work challenges current social policy’s supposedly rational utilitarian basis and the principle of equality that together ground a sociopolitical economy of disability predicated on rehabilitation or compensation. Nonetheless, the call for sexual citizenship for people with disabi lities is fraught with difficulties, not least regarding the potential extension of govern mentality. An effective approach not only will take into account the sociopolitical aspects of this issue but also will respond to both the full embodiment of disability and its significance in mainstream culture.

Theorizing feminisms is organized into four sections and includes fifty-four essays. The first section introduces several basic concepts commonly employed when thinking about sexism - oppression, social construction, essentialism, intersectionality, gender, race, and class - and also raises questions about the perspective and legitimacy of the theorist. The second section surveys three approaches that attempt to characterize in a general way the source of injustice toward women : humanist feminism ('the sameness approach'), gynocentric feminism ('the difference approach'), and dominance feminism. Offering an alternate perspective, the third section introduces two 'localizing' approaches, grounded in postmodernism and identity politics, respectively.     Il arrive fréquemment que les débats sur l’action positive aux États-Unis traitent séparément les questions relatives à l’égalité et à la différence, aux droits individuels et aux identités de groupe. Pourtant, ce sont là des couples de concepts interdépendants, chacun étant lié à l’autre dans une tension nécessaire. Les tensions se manifestent de façon spécifique selon la période historique et doivent être analysées en fonction du contexte politique qui les porte et non comme des choix moraux ou éthiques a-historiques. Cet essai explore trois paradoxes — qui sont des tensions insolubles — propres aux débats sur l’action positive : 1) l’égalité est un principe absolu et une pratique historique contingente ; 2) les identités de groupe définissent des individus et leur refusent la pleine expression ou réalisation de leur individualité ; 3) les revendications de l’égalité impliquent l’acceptation et le rejet de l’identité de groupe produit par la discrimination. Autrement dit, les termes de l’exclusion, qui fondent la discrimination, sont à la fois refusés et reproduits dans la demande d’inclusion.
