In my article, I suggest that indigenous women are among the hardest hit by economic globalization – the expansion of markets, trade liberalization and cheapening of labour – and that globalization represents a multifaceted violence against indigenous women. I consider this with the help of two examples. First, I discuss the largely ignored case of missing and murdered Aboriginal women in Canada and how the interlocking systems of oppression (colonization, patriarchy and capitalism) are further intensified by globalization. Second, I examine the death of a Hopi woman, Private Piestewa, in the context of militarization, history of colonization and globalization. I analyse these examples in an intersectional framework that reveals the links between colonization, patriarchy and capitalism all of which inform the current processes of globalization.

« Contract and Domination offers a bold challenge to contemporary contract theory, arguing that it should either be fundamentally rethought or abandoned altogether. Since the publication of John Rawls's A Theory of Justice, contract theory has once again become central to the Western political tradition. But gender justice is neglected and racial justice almost completely ignored. Carole Pateman's and Charles Mills's earlier books, The Sexual Contract (1988) and The Racial Contract (1997), offered devastating critiques of gender and racial domination and the contemporary contract tradition's silence on them. Both books have become classics of revisionist radical democratic political theory. Now Pateman and Mills are collaborating for the first time in an interdisciplinary volume, drawing on their insights from political science and philosophy. They are building on but going beyond their earlier work to bring the sexual and racial contracts together. In Contract and Domination, Pateman and Mills discuss their differences about contract theory and whether it has a useful future; excavate the (white) settler contract that created new civil societies in North America and Australia; argue via a "non-ideal" contract for reparations to black Americans; confront the evasions of contemporary contract theorists; explore the intersections of gender and race and the global sexual-racial contract; and reply to their critics. »--Page 4 de la couverture.

"Le retour sur l'histoire du courant féministe "lutte de classes" met en évidence l'urgence à penser les rapports sociaux de sexe en les articulant aux rapports de classe et aux rapports Nord-Sud. Quels sont les apports et les limites du Queer pour penser le genre et les oppressions? Quels sont les rapports entre les mouvements féministes et les mouvements gais et lesbiens? Quels sont les effets de la mondialisation néolibérale sur l'oppression des femmes et sur leurs luttes à l'échelle mondiale? Les questions des rapports de classe et celle du racisme ont été également remises au-devant de la scène par la révolte des banlieues dont les filles semblaient toutefois singulièrement absentes. Pourtant, elles luttent contre le sexisme, ainsi que le montre le collectif Féminin-Masculin de Vitry. A l'heure où les retours en arrière sont toujours possibles, comme en atteste l'émergence d'un mouvement masculiniste, la construction d'un courant féministe se donnant pour objectif de changer radicalement la société reste nécessaire pour gagner l'égalité réelle entre hommes et femmes."

Ce travail tente d’analyser l’évolution de la division sexuelle et internationale du travail dans le cadre néolibéral, en croisant les dimensions patriarcales, capitalistes et racistes, et en observant plus particulièrement le marché du travail informel, considéré comme caractéristique de la mondialisation. S’y détachent deux figures, la deuxième étant en grande partie créée par la première : l’homme en armes et la femme « de service » (« travailleuse domestique » ou « travailleuse sexuelle »). Pour de vastes pans des secteurs non privilégiés de la population, il s’agit désormais du principal horizon dans le domaine de « l’emploi ». Précaires, souvent mal rémunérés et peu reluisants pour qui les exerce, ces « emplois » tristement emblématiques sont pourtant au cœur de la réorganisation néolibérale du travail.

The Death of Nature: Women, Ecology, and the Scientific Revolution, published in 1980, presented a view of the Scientific Revolution that challenged the hegemony of mechanistic science as a marker of progress. It argued that seventeenth-century science could be implicated in the ecological crisis, the domination of nature, and the devaluation of women in the production of scientific knowledge. This essay offers a twenty-five-year retrospective of the book’s contributions to ecofeminism, environmental history, and reassessments of the Scientific Revolution. It also responds to challenges to the argument that Francis Bacon’s rhetoric legitimated the control of nature. Although Bacon did not use terms such as “the torture of nature,” his followers, with some justification, interpreted his rhetoric in that light.

Cet article analyse les enjeux économiques et culturels liés à la migration des femmes des pays pauvres aux pays riches. Arlie R. Hochschild décrit cette tendance mondiale comme une « fuite du care » (care drain) dans laquelle les femmes qui prennent habituellement soin des enfants, des personnes âgées et des malades dans leur propre pays transposent leurs compétences dans les hôpitaux, maisons de retraite et domiciles privés de leur pays d’accueil. Elle explore également différentes manières de conceptualiser le care et les problématiques qu’il soulève dans la vie quotidienne dans un contexte de capitalisme mondial.

Cet article analyse la stratégie du système onusien pour neutraliser les mouvements sociaux contestataires en les faisant « participer » à son projet de « bonne gouvernance » mondiale, à travers l’exemple du mouvement féministe latino-américain et des Caraïbes. En étudiant les « politiques de population » des institutions internationales et la question du micro-crédit pour les femmes, on voit comment l’ONU parvient à se présenter comme « alliée » des femmes et à embrigader dans son entreprise une partie du mouvement féministe, alors qu’elle applique des politiques désastreuses pour les femmes, en particulier pour les femmes pauvres du Sud.

Comme caractéristique du développement capitaliste, la migration économique a toujours entraîné le travail sexuel. À l’heure de la mondialisation, cela signifie pour beaucoup de femmes, qui émigrent du village à la grande ville dans leur propre pays ou du pays natal à l’étranger, un choix imposé par les circonstances. Cet article examine surtout la décision d’émigrer, les moyens empruntés et la situation à l’étranger de celles - la grande majorité, d’ailleurs -- qui n’ont pas été victimes d’un trafic, mais qui ont exercé ce choix imposé. Le rôle dans l’émigration des travailleuses sexuelles et des clients « émigrés » en tant que touristes sexuels fait partie de la discussion, ainsi que d’autres caractéristiques économiques et culturelles.Summary As a feature of capitalist development, economic migration has historically entailed sex work as one of its components. In the age of globalization, this means a forced choice for many women, as they move from the village to the city in their own countries and across international borders. The present article focuses on the decision making process, the means of migration, and the experience in the urban site, national or international, of those -- the vast majority -- who have not been "trafficked", but have made this forced choice their life strategy. The impact on sex worker migration of customer "migration" in the form of sex tourism is discussed, along with the other economic and cultural factors.

How does the standard of living of gay men and lesbians compare with that of heterosexuals? Do homosexuals make financial and family decisions differently? Why are the professional lives of gay men and lesbians dissimilar from those of heterosexuals? Or do they even differ? Have gay people benefited from the recent economic boom? Or have public policies denied them their fair share? Money, Myths, and Change provides new answers to these complex questions. This is the first comprehensive work to explore the economic lives of gays and lesbians in the United States. M. V. Both timely and readable, Money, Myths, and Change stands as a much-needed corrective to the assumptions that inhibit gay economic equality. It is a definitive work that sheds new light on just what it means to be gay or lesbian in the United States.

This article examines the circulation of heterosexist positions within several recent New Zealand media texts. It argues that a recent form of discourse engages liberal language and assumptions in ways that support the privileged position of heterosexuality and the marginalization of homosexuality. The examples given highlight not only the tenor of some recent representations of homosexuality, but also some problems within liberalism. Most notable of these are liberalism's individualism and its failure to recognize the systemic nature of hierarchical power relationships and the constituting of lesbian and gay subjectivities within these relationships. These problems allow liberalism to play an active part in processes of domination and subordination.
