Nous proposons dans ce numéro de distinguer, schématiquement, trois grandes étapes dans l'histoire de la dissociation entre sexe et genre : 1860-1940, la dissociation graduelle entre les structures anatomiques, des fonctions physiologiques, l'identité sexuée, le désir sexuel et le rôle social. 1940-1960 : la période charnière de la naissance de la définition "scientifique" du genre comme une "identité profonde" de l'individu. A partir des années 1970 : l'émergence du concept féministe du genre comme relation de domination.
